1. What is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate?
Sodium Lauryl (Laureth) Sulfate (SLS) is currently the primary foaming agent of Western civilization. SLS is found in shampoos, bath gels, car washes, dish detergents, bar "soaps", laundry detergents, etc. SLSis a wetting and dispersing agent, emulsifier, degreaser and foamier. We believe SLS is used because it is an inexpensive detergent that foams well.

2. Why we don’t use it in our products?
In its final report on the safety of sodium lauryl sulfate, the Journal of the American College of Toxicology notes that this ingredient has a "degenerative effect on the cell membranes because of its protein denaturing properties." What's more, the journal adds, "high levels of skin penetration may occur at even low use concentration. May increase hair loss, and promote skin and scalp irritation in sensitive individuals. May produce skin and hair damage including cracking and inflammation.” SLS is a known skin irritant and used in lotion tests to irritate the skin - then the soothing effects of the lotion are tested on the irritated skin.
Additional studies have found that sodium lauryl sulfate is heavily deposited on the skin surface and in the hair follicles. Damage to the hair follicle could result from such deposition.
